David Bingham

dbingham@vt.edu
David serves as the ADA architect for University ADA Services. He came to Virginia Tech at the tail-end of the '80s to cap off his graduate education in architecture. He holds a professional Master of Architecture from VT, an honors BS from the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering at SUNY Binghamton, and an AST from Johnson College in Pennsylvania. He has been working in the construction industry, in one form or another, since 1975. Aside from his work with building access, his areas of research are solar energy, smart homes, and the integration of computer controlled environments. He is a great lover of nature and animals, and is a reformed (well, recovering) photographer of the same.
His work with the ADA office includes accessibility consulting and occasional designs of current and future VT campus building projects, as well as the design, maintenance and production of the university's Universal Access Campus Map and its web site showing all accessible routes through VT's 2500 acre campus and its holdings here in Blacksburg. "Why cartography as well as architectural access consulting? You might ask", David likes to joke: "that's what I get for doing a semester in Geography early in graduate school; it's just my penance". All jesting aside, he believes it's a great, exciting, as well as fun job that benefits many, many people, with or without disabilities; what more could one ask for?
